Reaching Out

I feel that we as women need to start reaching out more to each other. No matter if you are sharing your story with someone older or someone younger everyone can benefit from you. I had an experience today when I did share a little of what I did to be more positive towards my body and it felt good.

It felt good to share with someone how to love their body. That's a hard concept and one I am continually working on. I want to love my body in the moment. That has been my goal for awhile. I have lately been thinking about why would my body want to perform for me if I am not loving it. I think that is something for everyone to think about.

So my challenge for myself is to really focus this week on loving myself and my body. It is an incredible gift and I don't want to misuse it.

That's my thoughts for the week.

Being Vulnerable

I have been thinking a lot about vulnerability. Why aren't we vulnerable with each other? Why can't we talk about hard things with each other? Why can't we trust each other?

As I have been thinking about these questions here are some of my thoughts. Vulnerability is hard. It's hard to open up to people and hope they don't judge you or your story. I wish that we could build trust with each other quicker. I think we can do that by knowing that we aren't perfect. Life is hard for everyone. If we saw what others were going through we would be content with our lives. We would want to share. Plus you don't know who else is struggling with the same things you are. You don't know who is going through a rough time and could use your help.

Now I saw all this but it is a lot harder and easier said then done. We can't talk about hard topics like depression, anxiety, negative thoughts, and a plethora of other topics because of trust and vulnerability. Why can't we trust each other? Because we don't know if the person will sincerely take our story and use it to help them or will they tell everyone. Does it matter that they tell everyone? Who is really going to judge you for sharing....won't they be thinking the other person is rude for sharing a story that isn't theirs.

Anyway here are some of my thoughts. I hope one day we can be vulnerable and have open conversations. I hope one day we won't be so afraid and that people won't be so judgmental. My goal is to get the ball rolling. I want to start opening up because I know once that happens we won't feel so alone.

What are your thoughts?

First Public Singing Experience

This past weekend I had the opportunity to do an Open Mic night for the singing studio that I am a part of. It was a thrilling experience. I was pretty nervous and had a lot of negative voices inside my head telling me I am too old to take voice lessons and do performances.

I had to really focus on the lyrics of the song to remind myself that I can do hard things. The song is called "All that Matters" from the musical Finding Neverland. If you have seen the movie then you know the character of Sylvia. She has a lot of personal struggles and I find that I relate to her. She lost her husband, she has cancer, and cares for someone who she knows it is wrong to care for because he is married. I don't have all of those things going on in my life ;) but I feel the lyrics relate to anyone who is struggling with negative voices in their heads. Especially the beginning of the song. The lyrics start:

"There are days when I feel so afraid I can hardly remember to breathe;
When reality crashes in wave after wave, pulling me farther beneath.
So what's the point in planning for a future. If it all can be stolen away.
It's all I can do to hold on and survive; when the colors have faded to grey."

I have those days. I have days where I don't know if I will make it through. I have days where I am so afraid of death and life that it feels like a weight on my shoulders. Then in the second part of the song she talks about how she has one person that pulls her out of this despair. She has her children that help her find her center. That's where I am at right now. I have Jason who literally pulls me into shore when I feel like I am drowning. He centers me and helps me live life like I want to live it. I have a child (Gemma) who literally looks at me like I am the one person in the world that she loves. That I can do no wrong. I love that look. We don't have to struggle through life or our hardships alone. Let us be a safe place for a person and in return don't be afraid to talk to others. It's when we start sharing our stories that others will truly see they are not alone.

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

I have been realizing that it is worth getting out of your comfort zone. Lately I have been feeling like I need socialization and needing to improve my spiritual health. My friend posted on Facebook that she and her friends were creating a book club online. Then our bishop asked us to go to a self-reliance course that has been happening in wards and stakes for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

As I started reading the book for the book club I realized that this has been what is missing in my life right now. Then when they did a live Facebook meeting for the Book Club this week I realized how anxious I was to socialize with people not in my family. Yet, I need support and love. I need to talk to people outside of my family about my anxieties and I need to live outside of myself. If I want to be a motivational speaker I will need to start being vulnerable and this is a good way to do that.

Next we just started this self-reliance course and I am realizing how much I need this. I have been putting off starting my motivational speaking because I am not sure if I am ready. This course is putting me in a spot where I am realizing how ready I am. I want to start helping people and I know that motivational speaking is my calling in life. I love speaking and teaching people how to overcome blockades and push themselves to the next level.

So this week I want to challenge everyone to get outside of themselves and get out of your comfort zone. Start making a difference and being vulnerable. Be a piece of something bigger than you.
